Everest Comfort Trekking with Tengboche Monastery

Nepal Nepal

Trekking Map

This beginner comfort trekking tour offers you a fascinating introduction to the Everest region and takes you to the famous Tengboche monastery. The tour starts with an exciting and thrilling flight to Lukla (2,800 m).

The subsequent hike leads along rushing rivers through the famous villages of the Sherpas and past Buddhist monasteries. At Everest View Point you can admire Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lothse and Ama Dablam on a clear day. The view from here is breath-taking. In the famous Tengboche monastery you will experience the colourful Buddhist culture, its chants and traditions and be impressed by the mountain panoramas.

For our Everest Comfort Trekking Tour we use the chain of Yeti Mountain Homes and Everest Summit Lodges in Lukla, Monjo and in Namche Bazaar. These accommodations are of a higher standard than the usual lodges in the region, are known for the picturesque views and offer better hygiene and environmental standards. Unfortunately, there are no comfort lodges in Tengboche. Here you stay in the best available standard lodge.

The maximum altitude on this trek is under 4,000 meters, so this is an ideal beginner’s tour for hikers with little or no trekking experience. A certain level of fitness is required.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu – Introduction, equipment check and welcome dinner
Arrival in Kathmandu. You will be picked up at the airport and driven to your hotel. In the afternoon we will explain the details of the trip with you, look through your equipment together and in the evening you are invited to dinner with your guide. Overnight at Hotel Shanker or Hotel Shangri La, (D).

Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing and preparation for trekking
Today we explore Kathmandu with a local guide. This day can be designed flexibly according to your wishes. The most popular places and most impressive sights include Pashupatinath – a Hindu temple with cremation places and Boudhanath Stupa. At Afternoon we will be driven to Ramechap for th flight to Lukla. Overnight at Guest House, (B).

Day 3: Flight to Lukla (2,840m) and trekking tour to Monjo (2,850m) – 5 to 6 hours of hiking
After an exciting and promising flight to Lukla, we start the tour along the beautiful Dudh Khosi river valley, past mani stones and prayer wheels, which are typical of the Buddhist Sherpa country. From Phakding we follow the path to the northern part of the Dudh Khosi valley. We stay on the west side of the river bed and there is soon a good view of the impressive Thamserku (6,608 m). After a long ascent over a mountain ridge, there is a crossing high above the river to Benkar and a little further we hike over a suspension bridge to the eastern bank of Dudh Khosi. The old adventurous suspension bridges have disappeared. Today there are excellent, newly built, safe metal suspension bridges. We will cross the rivers several times over these bridges. We reach Monjo, at the entrance of the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park. We spend our first evening at Yeti Mountain Homes. This lodge has a cosy dining area, bedroom and you have your own bathroom. A great place to relax and get in the mood for this great environment. Overnight in Yeti Mountain Homes, (B|L|D).

Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,445m) – approx. 5 hours of hiking
Today we go uphill over many stone steps until we reach Namche Bazaar. After crossing the impressive Hillary suspension bridge, the path continues uphill to the capital of the Sherpas. The place offers good opportunities for short walks and relaxation breaks. It is about halfway on this tour. Shortly before Namche, Mount Everest also appears for the first time. Upon arrival at Namche Bazaar, we will check into our hotel and relax for the rest of the day. Overnight in Yeti Mountain Homes, (B|L|D).

Day 5: Day hike to Everest viewpoint and sightseeing in Namche Bazaar
We start the day with an early hike up the steep mountain ridge above Namche Bazaar. During the ascent on the mountain path, we always have very excellent views of the main route to Everest Base Camp. High up on the ridge, we bypass the mountain side and get to the viewpoint on Mount Everest. The views during the hike are simply spectacular. On the way back we will have our lunch very close to the interesting Sherpa Cultural Centre and Everest Mountaineering Museum. A visit here is always worthwhile. After lunch we come back to the lodge and in the afternoon you can either relax or go exploring in Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Yeti Mountain Homes, (B|L|D).

Day 6: Trek to Debuche (3,770m) – and visit to the Tengboche monastery – 5 hours hike
This morning we leave Namche on the path that leads us high above the Imja Khosi. Spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse await us here, as well as the majestically wonderfully shaped Ama Dablam, which is rightly said to be one of the most beautiful mountains on earth. It is also called “the Matterhorn of the Himalayas”! After passing the river at Phunki Tenga, we begin the ascent through a forest to Tengboche (3,860m). From the Tengboche monastery, we again enjoy spectacular views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku and Tobuche. Tengboche is the most important Buddhist monastery in the Sherpa region and the home of the abbot and about eighty monks and nuns who follow Nyingmapa Buddhism, which in turn dominates the Sherpa region. Today we spend the first time in a simple lodge, because there are no comfort lodges available here. Overnight in a simple tea house lodge with its own toilet, (B|L|D).

Day 7: Trek to Monjo – 6 to 7 hours of walking
After leaving Debuche, we descend steeply through birch and rhododendron forests to Dudh Khosi. On steep paths we return via Tashinga to the main hiking trail of the Base Camp Trek to Monjo. Overnight in Yeti Mountain Homes, (B|L|D).

Day 8: Return to Lukla – 5 hours hike
From Monjo the route continues downhill through the Dudh Khosi valley and the villages of Phakding, Ghat and Cheplung. At Chaurikharka we begin the ascent over one last hill of the trek to reach Lukla. After getting to the sunrise hut we can relax and enjoy our last evening with our guides and porters. Overnight in Yeti Mountain Homes, (B|L|D).

Day 9: Flight to Ramechap and drive to Bhaktapur – approx. 4 hours drive
You will be picked up at the airport and driven to your Hotel Heritage House in Bhaktapur. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the Hotel Heritage in Bhaktapur or similar category, (B).

Day 10: Bhaktapur Sightseeing – Afternoon free time
Bhaktapur is an old Newari and royal city in the eastern Kathmandu valley. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone works of art. We will visit Layaku, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Nyatapola Temple, Bhairab Nath Temple and Dattatraya Temple. There are also numerous museums where you can learn about the handicrafts of the native Newar. The afternoon is at your disposal. Overnight at the Hotel Heritage in Bhaktapur, (B).

Day 11: Drive to Kathmandu – Afternoon relaxation massage
After breakfast you will be driven to Kathmandu. In the afternoon you will receive your well-deserved 1 ½ hour relaxation massage. Overnight at Hotel Shangri La or Hotel Shanker, (B).

The fees can also be paid in euros, which are converted by the bank at the airport in accordance with the dollar exchange rate. Two passport size photographs must be provided for the visa. At the time of the trip your passport must be valid for at least a further six months and have at least one blank page.
These visa and passport regulations apply to EU countries, Switzerland and the USA. Other nationals should check with the relevant consular authorities.

Insurance
Travel health insurance (with recovery costs) is essential for your own safety and a precondition for participation in our trips. In the event of an accident in the mountains which requires a helicopter rescue, the helicopter will not take off before the responsibility for the cost is clarified.
The conclusion of travel cancellation insurance is highly recommended. In the case of bargain price flights in particular, changes or cancellations generally can’t be made free of charge. In Nepal complications with the weather or with your health could make it necessary to break off your journey.
We have requested ERGO (Reiseversicherung) to create various service packages for you. You can book travel health insurance at https://www.reiseversicherung.de/vrv/partner/ep-Assistent.html?/data/agent/hagtnr=027256&/data/agent/nagtnr=000000.

Tour program
The travel program for all of our recommended tours is carefully planned. It can happen, however, that roads are closed without advance notice or are impassable, that there are waiting times of several hours because of traffic congestion or fuel shortages and that specific tourist attractions are closed for various reasons. Other restrictions such as flight delays or even cancellations due to bad weather, strikes, the health of participants or unfavorable conditions while trekking may also make the implementation of the travel program more difficult or at worst make it impossible. However, our local guides are prepared for such situations and will make every effort to achieve every aspect of the program to your satisfaction. As a result the inconvenience can normally be kept to a reasonable level. Nevertheless, it must be pointed out at this juncture that for the above reasons program changes are possible at any time and cannot be influenced by the organizers. The resulting costs are borne by the traveler. We ask for your understanding.
