Bhutan, the small kingdom in the eastern Himalaya, is a paradise for nature lovers and trekking enthusiasts. One of the most impressive and at the same time most spiritual ways to discover this country is the Chomolhari Trek<\/strong> <\/a>– also known as the Jomolhari Trek<\/strong>. This route leads deep into untouched wilderness, past snow-covered peaks, turquoise glacier lakes, secluded yak herders and ancient monasteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the Chomolhari Trek?<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Chomolhari Trek is one of the most famous treks in Bhutan and leads through the remote high mountains of Jigme Dorji National Park. It is named after the sacred mountain Chomolhari<\/strong> (also: Jomolhari), which is considered the seat of a female mountain goddess and rises majestically to 7,326 metres – right on the border with Tibet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The classic trek takes about 8 to 9 days<\/strong>, usually starts in Shana<\/strong> (near Paro) and, depending on the variant, ends in Dodena<\/strong> or Thimphu<\/strong>. It is moderate to demanding and requires good fitness and acclimatisation, as some passes are above 4,800 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
