Unfortunately it is not a standard holiday destination, so finding a tour operator was not entirely easy. I could have booked the trip with larger tour operators, but there were three smaller &#8220;snags&#8221;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1. No stay in Kathmandu (and I really wanted to go there)<br>2. Trip duration only 6 days<br>3. Minimum number of participants two or often even four; with geoDiscovery Tours I could also have travelled alone, against a surcharge. The surcharge with the competition would have been significantly more expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then I came across the geoDiscovery Tours website and contacted Mrs. Kolay directly by phone. She was very helpful and willing to provide information, and in our first contact she took a lot of time for my questions even though I had not yet booked the trip with her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About the trip itself: The trip was really very well organised and far exceeded my expectations. It started in Kathmandu with a visit to the three highlights. Our tour leader was great and he even spoke German.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the day of arrival in Kathmandu we also had a welcome dinner with Mrs. Kolay. Where else do you have the opportunity to meet the trip organiser in person? This of course cannot be expected on every trip, but it was a wonderful gesture. Many warm thanks for that, Mrs. Kolay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next day we then flew to Bhutan, a great flight including a view of the Himalayas. In Bhutan our guide and our driver welcomed us in their car. After visiting the festival in Paro (the first festival after 3 years of Corona), we then continued into the interior of the country via the Dochula Pass. In Bhutan we of course visit many dzongs (monastery fortresses) and also some very old monasteries. We also visited a Bhutanese family in their home. The integration of Buddhism into the everyday life of the Bhutanese people and their hospitality moved me deeply. Our driver took us safely and reliably to our respective destinations and our guide provided us with all the worth-knowing information. My personal highlight was of course the famous Tiger&#8217;s Nest at the end of the trip. After an almost two-hour ascent over 900 metres of elevation, it finally lay before us. It was incredible to be able to enjoy this sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A day later it was time to say goodbye to Bhutan and fly back to Bhaktapur, where we were given a small city tour. The day after that I then flew back to Germany, packed full of wonderful memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My conclusion: The trip was really very worthwhile and the support before and during the entire trip was excellent. Due to the high visa fee, the country is visited by very few tourists.
