Even the one-hour flight from Delhi to Leh over the Himalayas was impressive and gave us an idea of how mighty and breathtakingly beautiful nature in northern India would be. And we were not disappointed at any point of the trip; on the contrary: at the end we slipped into the joking phrase: oh no, beautiful again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First we acclimatised for 3 days in the capital Leh at 3500 m, visited monasteries, soaked up the special atmosphere in the bustling alleyways and enjoyed the view of the palace and the surrounding mountains over a masala tea on one of the rooftop terraces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Markha tent trek led us through narrow gorges, over high passes (up to over 5200 m), into beautiful monasteries, past countless mani walls and ch\u00f6rten. We were accompanied by our wonderful guide Jigmet, who let us immerse ourselves in his homeland in a very special way, made us part of Buddhist culture and brought Ladakhi village life closer to us. Every morning we opened the zip of our tent full of anticipation for the coming day, and over a first morning coffee we delighted in the first view out of the tent entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the rest of the support team also became a small family for us: Horseman Namgyal and his 6 reliable and faithful horses, who carried our luggage day after day, and the Nepalese cook Jalakh, who prepared fantastic Nepalese and Indian dishes for us. Many thanks to the whole team for the care and the wonderful experiences!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deeply moved, full of wonderful impressions, but also a little exhausted, we returned to Leh to our very dear Mahey Retreat Hotel with its wonderful team. We were welcomed by Sonam, who very lovingly and reliably made sure that we got a working and almost new motorcycle, and obtained for us the necessary permits we needed to be allowed to drive to the Nubra Valley and to the lakes lying further south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then off we went: over the Khardung La Pass for 2 days into the beautiful Nubra Valley with its sand dunes, more wonderful Buddhist monasteries and green river valleys. Onwards over partly unpaved, adventurous roads via the Wari La Pass to Chemrey, where in a homestay with a very lovable family we were able to experience an unforgettable evening with dancing, singing and momo-making. Onwards to the high-lying, deep blue Tso Moriri and the smaller salt lake Tso Kar, past further beautifully situated, partly isolated monasteries. We used the last available day to fight our way again through the &#8211; for us unusual &#8211; Indian street traffic in Leh and to drive along the Indus to the confluence with the Zanskar. The short drive along the Zanskar marked the end of a dream trip that impressed us lastingly and that we will not forget any time soon. A good combination of a guided tour with perfect organisation, starting with geoDiscovery Tours, and a bit of adventure on the self-organised motorcycle trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many thanks to Mrs. Kolay from geoDiscovery Tours and Ramesh and everyone involved in the perfect organisation of a perfect trip.
