The trip will certainly remain in everyone’s memory as an adventure in a very positive way, and we largely owe this to you and your organisation.  
A neighbour spoke to K. from our group after her return. She said K. seemed “not yet to have arrived back”. The neighbour then told her she had once read something about Native Americans who, after a long journey, first sit down and wait for their soul to catch up… that’s actually how it feels a little right now. And not only for K. 
Every time I come back from Nepal, I feel grateful and appreciate the privileged life I am allowed to lead, and value it all the more. Hot running water at any time, vegetables and fruit in abundance, clean clothes and so on. The people in Nepal are happy and content without all these things. This realisation I take with me into my everyday life, especially when it seems to be coming apart at the seams again.  
Already at the f.re.e fair in Munich and during our first meeting, it was clear to Horst and me: if we travel to Nepal again, we will leave the organisation of the trip to geoDiscovery Tours. The last 3 of my Nepal trips, which I undertook with leading tour operators, were also very well organised.
What we needed on our 4th trip to Nepal, however, was a slightly modified itinerary adapted to us, small extras, the ability to put together our own group and personal support. Above all also with important tips and attunement to the trip in a video call.
That is exactly what we received from you – Mrs Kolay. And this individuality also continued through the on-site support, from the pickup at the airport, the welcome evening, the equipment check, the accommodation, full board including drinks during the trekking, the guides, porters, all the way to our return to Kathmandu. 
That is exactly what made the trip special. We put together the group members ourselves. Which was an advantage, and yet of course no one knew how the group dynamics would develop: 20 days together every day, everyone has their own little ailments, inner struggles, ideas about the trip, values and their own walking pace and comfort zone.
Our main guide Fatta didn’t always have an easy time with us. Nevertheless, he always kept calm and kept the situation under control. Even when one fellow traveller decided in the morning that his health came first and he saw no way to walk the last 3 days back to Lukla. A helicopter was organised, A. was flown to Lukla with an assistant guide. He looked after A. intensively, cared for him in the hospital and later arranged accommodation. By now he is on the road to recovery.
Everyone had their personal highlights. Here I would like to list a few:
On the 1st acclimatisation day, our tour took us from Namche Bazaar to the Everest View Hotel, which was on my wish list. I had expected more from the hotel. What did convince me, however, is the terrace with the wonderful view of the high mountains and, stylishly served with it, a large pot of ginger tea with lemon and honey. A wonderful prelude to the days ahead. 
In the afternoon we went with our guide Fatta and the group to a special ceremony that had been organised in advance, “our vow of faithfulness” in the monastery in Namche Bazaar. What a unique experience. At the end, we were all sent on our further journey by the monk with a white scarf and a blessing. 
And another highlight was not long in coming: the visit to Ama Dablam Base Camp. To stand so close to one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, an indescribable moment. Once again an acclimatisation excursion that could not have been more beautiful. 
For me personally, the overnight stay at the Pyramid 8,000 Inn (alternative to Lobuche), which we had decided on at short notice, was also an experience. I had been there before in 2001. We made a tea stop there during an acclimatisation tour. A wonderful warm, clean shower, cosy rooms (even though we had a 4-bed room) and very good food convinced us that we had made the right decision. 
The personal highlight for my partner Horst and me: an overnight stay at Everest Base Camp. geoDiscovery Tours fulfilled this special wish for us. The background to our wish: we met in 2001 on the way to EBC in a hiking group. In 2007, in the course of our Island Peak ascent, we wanted to visit EBC on the acclimatisation day. Which without a permit, then as now, is not possible and we turned back at the “gates”. 
Yes, and now it worked, with the overnight stay we automatically had the permit. After we had crossed the entire EBC to get to our tent camp, we were warmly welcomed by the Seven Summit Treks organisation. Housed in a large 2-person tent, we enjoyed the very tasty meals together with potential Everest\/Lhotse etc. summit climbers. We had the opportunity in the evening to meet the expedition leader and ask questions. As a crowning finish, there was even a welcome cake for us. At an altitude of 5,350 metres, a lovely surprise.  
Part of the group spent the night in Gorak Shep and climbed Kala Patthar the next morning. The fellow hikers had a wonderful view of Everest and the Khumbu Glacier. For them too, an unforgettable experience. 5,675 metres high and not, as noted everywhere: 5,545 metres. The summit was moved, the reason being that a helicopter landing pad had to make room for it. The sound of the helicopters that bring day-trippers from Kathmandu to Kala Patthar and EBC accompanied us for almost the entire trip. A development we hadn’t expected and that we question. In contrast, the positive development we otherwise observed, such as  wider paths, alternative trails for the horses, donkeys and yaks. Toilets in the accommodation and not, as still in 2007, outside. Almost always running water for a quick wash and to brush your teeth, and a more varied menu.   
We knew that we were travelling in high season and had prepared ourselves for the fact that many fellow hikers of all nationalities were on the trail. Nevertheless, we were glad when we turned towards the Cho La Pass. The following days up to Namche Bazaar took us through a quieter area, which we really enjoyed.
The long tour over the Cho La Pass gave us a completely different picture of Nepal in terms of landscape. Crossing a glacier, arriving at the top of Cho La Pass with a surprising mobile phone charging station, a fantastic panoramic view, and then a descent secured with ropes down into the Gokyo Valley. We were glad that geoDiscovery Tours had planned the tour in this direction. From our point of view, the easier route. 
The village of Gokyo at the Gokyo Lake greeted us, as so often, with a huge bakery. A cake selection that, in retrospect, accompanied us throughout the whole tour, awaited us there too. Carrot cake, chocolate cake, rum balls, Black Forest cake, cheesecake and coffee to taste. Sometimes we felt we were on a “coffee and cake tour”. Hardly an afternoon went by when we didn’t sit together cosily in a bakery. Enjoying free Wi-Fi to keep our loved ones at home up to date.  
In Gokyo, the weather worsened on the second day. Horst and I decided on a rest day to get our cough a bit under control. The others set off early in the morning up Gokyo Ri to take one more look at the high mountains and the glaciers. After that the fog rolled in, it got colder and uncomfortable.
We decided together to skip the second pass. A change in the weather was on its way and so we went through the very beautiful Gokyo Valley back to Namche Bazaar. Here too, Fatta, with his knowledge of the region, had selected the right accommodation and looked after us touchingly. 
In Namche Bazaar we went to the bakery together one more time. The last shopping was done, until the next day we returned to Lukla. Healthwise it kept getting worse for A. and me, and so as not to challenge our health further, we decided after the national park entrance to take the last few kilometres to Lukla on horseback. Those who came towards us looked at us in astonishment, just as we must have looked 17 days earlier. Sometimes it is more important to listen to your health and accept the local services on offer. The horse leader was happy about his earnings, and I got a completely different view of the landscape, backyards and life along the wayside.
In the evening there was a cheerful farewell dinner with the guides and porters. They were very happy about our tip, which they had honestly earned, and the few things we did not want to take back.
Whether we could fly to Ramechhap the next day was still uncertain. 2 days before, nothing went at all for one day because of the fog. We were lucky, the plane left early in the morning. The bus brought us safely to Kathmandu, where we first took a warm shower and in the evening were spoiled outside in a cosy inner courtyard of a restaurant.
All in all, an adventure that everyone will remember in their own way. For Horst and me, the last trip to Nepal, which, like the previous trips, holds a firm place in our hearts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
