Meru and Ngorongoro Highland Trekking with Safari &amp; Zanzibar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After our impressive Nepal trip in autumn 2023, it was clear to us that we would also approach Tanzania with geoDiscovery Tours. The ability to individualise the tour down to the smallest detail already made the planning an experience. We wanted lots of physical activity, cultural experiences, of course safari adventures, and finally a few days of beach holiday. We combined <strong>four key trip building blocks<\/strong> for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the three-day <strong>Ngorongoro Highland Trekking<\/strong>, from the Empakai Crater down to Lake Natron, always with the iconic-looking Oldoinyo Lengai volcano in view, we had a real highlight of the trip right at the start. Anyone who is somewhat adventurous, can do without comfort (tent overnight stay and bush toilet included) and is not afraid of 7-hour hikes accompanied by a Maasai guide will be rewarded, off the tourist routes, with overwhelming nature and immersion in the everyday life of the local Maasai population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 5-day <strong>jeep safari<\/strong> that followed first led us into the northern and central Serengeti. The Mara River, at the border with Kenya, was a place of stillness and slowing down. Inconceivable when thousands of zebras and wildebeest there dare the dangerous river crossing all at once. The numerous crocodiles sunbathing on the bank already seemed to be moving into position. The big herds, however, are currently (in June) still to be found in the central Serengeti, followed by many big cats. Accordingly we had many sightings of lions, leopards and cheetahs (during the hunt). The overnight stays at Tanzania Bush Camp and Embalakai Camp, right in the middle of the park, were great. Afterwards we went to the Ngorongoro Crater. The density of animals there is almost unreal. To finish things off, then to Tarangire National Park. With its numerous baobab trees it is an absolute must, not only for elephant enthusiasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now it was time to get the rusty legs moving again and tackle <strong>Mt. Meru<\/strong>. The ascent of the 4,566m local mountain of Arusha is to be approached with respect, because the tour is strenuous, requires sure-footedness and tolerance of altitude. On day 3 of the ascent, the tour begins at midnight. At the latest with the sunrise over Kilimanjaro in the distance, the efforts are rewarded and motivation is fuelled for the last metres of altitude. Arrival at the summit is uplifting. Only during the descent does the incredible beauty of the volcanic landscape and the distant view over the wide plains become really perceptible, despite the cloud banks rolling in over and over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the strenuous mountain tour, we went on to the last station of our wonderful trip to the island of <strong>Zanzibar<\/strong>. Anyone who wishes can also undertake plenty of local excursions here. The excellent location of our Magic Boutique Hotel, directly on a kilometre-long white sand beach in the north-east of the island, was however too beautiful for us to be drawn away from it too often. The excursion to Stone Town and to the offshore Prison Island was, in retrospect, rather dispensable. A snorkelling tour to the nearby coral reef, with a local guide, starting directly from Magic Boutique, one should however not miss. So a wonderful place to process all the many impressions, to enjoy the sea and let your soul drift. Once again we got to know so many friendly, proud and lovable people who at all times strove to make a beautiful and eventful time in their country possible for us very personally and in part exclusively.
