<\/p>\nI was lucky enough to experience a three-week trekking tour in the Khumbu region. The uniquely beautiful impressions of this tour will remain unforgettable for me. The \u201clive\u201d experience of Sherpa culture alone makes this trip a \u201cmust\u201d! You may know the prayer flags, stupas and Tengboche Monastery from TV documentaries, but the real feeling on site simply cannot be conveyed into a living room at home. Since I would describe myself more as a culture philistine, it was not surprising to me that the local nature in all its facets of creation impressed me even more than anything else. Above all the different perspectives of the highest mountain on earth, the 8,848 m high Mount Everest.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Incidentally, the daily weather pattern during my tour was subject to a certain regularity: the mornings shone with a cloudless sky and sunshine. Over the course of the morning more and more cumulus clouds formed and in the afternoon it usually clouded over completely and started to snow lightly at higher altitudes. Somewhere after midnight the clouds had completely disappeared again, resulting in an extremely clear and bright starry sky.<\/p>\n
Even during the first 14 days of my tour there was always eye contact with Everest for a few hours at a time. Incredibly beautiful and moving moments to have this mountain of mountains in reality before your eyes.<\/p>\n
At the end of the Khumbu Valley I finally reached Gorak Shep at 5,140 m, the highest village in the Khumbu region. From there it is only a few hours on foot to Everest Base Camp, located right on the legendary Khumbu Glacier.<\/p>\n

The ascent of Kala Patthar, at 5,545 m also the high point of my 3-week tour, and the enticing view of Mount Everest, now almost within touching distance.<\/p>\n
Slightly weakened by a small cold, I had to drag myself rather more than walk to the summit, but the views up there and even during the ascent more than rewarded me. The moment when the sun rose exactly behind Everest I will never forget. I stood for several minutes in awe, gaze completely fixed on the east, simply marvelling.<\/p>\n
Arrived at the summit of Kala Patthar I was then rewarded with the most beautiful imaginable view of Everest and only about 5 kilometres as the crow flies from the highest mountain on earth. The warming rays of the sun and a hot tea now did their part to make these moments among the most impressive of my life. I just sat there with my gaze fixed on Everest and really inhaled and absorbed this image and the emotions.<\/p>\n

Mount Everest simply towers above everything else by far and this mixture of black rock, snow and bluish shimmering ice in these dimensions and the radiant deep blue sky truly suggested to me otherworldly features. My deep and inner enthusiasm, which this sight triggered in me, knew no bounds.<\/p>\n
