Dumjee Festival in Lukla May 2016
Dumjee is a Sherpa Festival celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of Guru Rimpoche Padmasambava. Sacred rituals and traditional dances in connection with music, food and drinks herald the beginning of the festival.
The Dumjee festival takes place in May/June and lasts several days. The festival is also celebrated in other places in the Khumbu region as Khumjung, Namche, Thame and Phortse, but Lukla is the place where Dumjee has more meaning.
