To the roof of Africa with geoDiscovery Tours – safe, experienced and with heart
The climb of Kilimanjaro is one of those very special adventures in life. Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m is not only the highest point in Africa, but also one of the famous “Seven Summits”. Although the ascent is not technically difficult, it places high demands on fitness, altitude adaptation and organisation.
With many years of experience, enthusiasm and great care, we organise individual trips as well as guided group tours to Tanzania. Every trip is planned with heart – with personal advice, reliable equipment and an excellently trained team on site.

Variety of routes – all proven variants except Umbwe
We offer all the common Kilimanjaro climbing routes – with the exception of the Umbwe Route, which is not recommended due to its steep profile and poor acclimatisation conditions. Available are:
- Machame Route – scenically attractive, good for acclimatisation
- Lemosho Route – quiet, varied, ideal for first-timers
- Marangu Route – with hut accommodation, popular with beginners
- Rongai Route – dry northern side, less travelled
- Northern Circuit – the longest and most acclimatisation-friendly route
The choice is made individually – tailored to fitness, travel time, experience and personal preferences.
Acclimatisation – safety through responsibility and monitoring
A successful Kilimanjaro climb begins with a good acclimatisation strategy. We pay attention to a slow, well-paced ascent, integrate rest days and use pulse oximeters daily to measure oxygen saturation and heart rate. Our mountain guides are trained in high-altitude tours and recognise signs of altitude problems early on.
Mt. Meru – our clear recommendation for preparation
Before Kilimanjaro we recommend the climb of Mount Meru (4,566 m). This impressive acclimatisation mountain not only offers spectacular nature, but also outstanding physical preparation. The summit day of Mt. Meru, however, requires sure-footedness and some light scrambling experience, as the terrain becomes more technically demanding towards the end. For many travellers, Meru is an ideal stage before the main goal.

Most important altitude rules in brief
- Ascend slowly, walk slowly – give acclimatisation enough time.
- Climb high, sleep low – climb higher, sleep lower.
- Drink plenty – at least 3-4 litres of water daily.
- Do not overexert yourself – keep a steady pace and take breaks.
- Avoid alcohol and strong coffee – these dehydrate the body and can make altitude adaptation more difficult.
- Take warning signs seriously – react in time to headaches, nausea or fatigue.
- Do not skip altitudes – make sure there is enough adaptation.
- Listen to the mountain guide’s advice – our experienced guides know exactly when it is safe to continue or when breaks are needed.
These rules will be explained again in detail and supported on site by our experienced guides to ensure a safe climb.
Equipment & comfort during the tour – high-quality and well thought-out
Standard equipment includes:
- Spacious 3-person tents for 2 guests
- Toilet tent for more privacy
- Dining tent with table and chairs
- Warm, balanced meals prepared by experienced cooks
- Emergency kits on every tour
Everything is designed to ensure the best possible comfort, hygiene and safety at altitude.
Our team on site – experienced, fair and regularly trained
The local guides, porters and cooks are not only experienced but are also regularly trained by us – in safety, hygiene, guest care and environmental awareness. We place great value on fair working conditions, appropriate pay and equipment in line with the standards of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP).
Travel safely – with German insolvency certificate
As a German tour operator, we issue an insolvency insurance certificate in accordance with §651r BGB with every booking. This means that the entire trip price is legally protected – a decisive advantage over local providers without consumer protection.
Safari, Zanzibar and more – perfect to combine
After the summit, the diversity of Tanzania awaits:
- Safari experiences in the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire or Lake Manyara
- Beach days on Zanzibar – with palm trees, spices and Swahili flair
- Cultural encounters with local communities and traditions
All programmes can be flexibly combined – as group or private trips.
Preparation tips for climbing Kilimanjaro
- Regular endurance and mountain training
- Broken-in hiking boots and tested equipment
- Medical advice (altitude sickness, vaccinations, malaria)
- Early arrival with a buffer day for acclimatisation
- Good mental preparation: realistic expectations, positive mindset
- Personal advice before the trip – from us, of course
Conclusion: Kilimanjaro trekking with experience, heart and responsibility
A Kilimanjaro climb is a special experience – physically, emotionally and scenically. With our experience, care and attention to detail, it becomes not only a summit success but also a memory for life.
We accompany this journey professionally, personally and with great respect for people and nature.
