The tour to Everest Base Camp and over the high passes was an adventure … the weather fully cooperated, every day we were spoiled with sunshine, and when in the afternoon the fog occasionally rose a little, the atmosphere became mystical. Everything was perfectly organised and Jit, our guide, advocated very strongly for us – every flight worked out, every meal was super tasty. The Everest Base Camp is interesting, but much more I was fascinated by the sunrises from Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri, or the atmosphere on the Cho La and the Renjo La in the early morning hours. The view is indescribable, probably not least because the air is so clean and clear. A special highlight was that we got to meet Kancha Sherpa, the last survivor of the first Mt. Everest ascent. The book written about his life is at least as exciting as a good crime novel.
After 3 weeks in the mountains, the shower in Kathmandu and the lovely hotel were very much appreciated. The second part of my trip was again superbly organised. Every detail worked excellently, and in Sagar I had an eloquent guide with whom interesting discussions could be had. Even if the Mardi Himal Trek does not go up so high, it is no less interesting, especially in the warmer areas where cardamom and tea grow.
