From 3.11.2016 to 27.11.2016 I travelled to Nepal again after 2014 and this time, after the Annapurna Circuit, I chose the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo via Cho La and Renjo La with geo Discovery. It was the best decision of my life and at 59 I fulfilled my lifelong dream (seeing Mt. Everest).
For my preferred date I was the only one, and geo Discovery even offered to run the tour for me alone. In the end another partner was found who had the same interests.
Arriving in Nepal, I was very kindly welcomed by Bishnu, and a temple tour into the country with my future guide was specially organised for me the next day. Due to a lack of flights I had to arrive earlier and this temple tour was spontaneously arranged for me for acclimatisation. That’s how I got to know and appreciate my guide Machendra. On the trekking tour he proved to be an outstanding expert on all the mountains, knew all the 8, 7 and 6 thousanders with name and height, was always there for me as friend and helper, and safely led me over mountains and passes at altitudes above 5,000 m (highest peak was Kala Patthar at 5,545 m). He took away all my doubts, I never had the feeling that I wouldn’t make it. So I was able to successfully cross Gokyo Ri with its beautiful turquoise lake and the Renjo Pass. Despite sometimes icy cold and exertion, it will remain an unforgettable experience for me. I will also not forget Kaji, who even took my day pack from me, the only pity was that he didn’t speak English.
My guide Machendra was not only an outstanding expert on the mountains, he knew the country and the people and was also a good photographer and took super pictures for me. Back in Kathmandu, a guide named Khadga was made available to me as a companion, who patiently went through my shopping list with me and fulfilled all my wishes in the chaotic Kathmandu.
I am deeply impressed by the country and the people and it was already my 2nd trip! I can only recommend this trek with its wonderful views of the 8,000 m peaks, and I would do it again at any time and always with geoDiscovery Tours.
