Gokyo Ri Trekking – Breathtaking!

If we had to describe this trip in a few words, the following come to mind: breathtaking, enchanting, unforgettable, warm-hearted.
We will always look back on the days in Nepal and the experiences gathered with a smile.
Whether it was the impressions in Kathmandu with its old temples and bustling streets, or the gigantic views of the highest mountains in the world and the simple lives of the Sherpas in the Himalayas – this was an experience we would not want to miss and for which we are very grateful.

The trekking tour to Gokyo Ri was demanding but doable with good preparation. Mrs. Kolay warmly recommended this route to us and she had a very good instinct with that! The tour includes smaller and larger challenges,
which we were all able to manage thanks to the great local team and the well-planned route. That we were able to reach the summit of Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m was our highlight. At sunrise and in dream weather, we saw Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and many other wonderful mountains, lakes and glaciers from up there. That briefly took our breath away. (And in this case not due to the altitude 😊)

The route is exciting right from the start with the thrilling flight to Lukla and initially leads you through a lot of green nature. Over suspension bridges you are accompanied by the sound of cow bells and lots of positive energy. Further up, the vegetation changes from day to day, and we also had the luck to catch a great glimpse of the local wildlife. The people on site always welcomed us very warmly in the tea houses and the food was very good.

Of course, there was also a lot of sweat involved, the occasional headache or an upset stomach – despite everything, the impressions are burned into us and we would make and recommend this trip again at any time. A big thank you here once again to Mrs. Kolay and the entire team of geoDiscovery Tours!
