It’s now 2 July. We’ve been back home for almost 9 weeks. Enough distance to process a holiday, you might think. That this isn’t so is proven by the daily look at the countless photos of our trip. Stefan, our hiking partner, has additionally sent plenty of pictures, so even now there is still something new to discover. The goosebumps that the sight of the photos causes have, if anything, gotten stronger. The impressions are lasting, breathtaking and still very emotional.
Nepal, what an incredible experience. Every few minutes a “Wow”, an “Amazing”, a “Beautiful”. The dimensions of the mountains, the friendliness of the people and the endless vastness. Every metre of effort was worth it. Happiness and contentment have taken on a new meaning. It is wonderful to be allowed to live your lifelong dream.

The trip we set out on with geoDiscovery was part of our very own personal lifelong dream. Everest, the Himalayas and Nepal had been in our heads for more than 10 years. It was the fascination for mountains and ranges in general, but the myth and aura of Sagarmatha in particular.
While researching this trip, Yvonne quickly settled on geoDiscovery. She was thrilled by the personal contact and the commitment with which our trip was planned. The fact that a Buddhist wedding in Namche Bazaar even came out of it – a dream. Thanks for the organisation and for the delicious cakes in Namche and later also in Bhaktapur 🙂
Of course we were also a bit afraid and especially had respect for this tour. It was “Into thin air” and that for several days in a row. To keep it short: our guide Fahta and his assistant Ambir took away this fear very quickly through their outstanding manner, their great work and their humour. It became the most beautiful physical suffering we ever had 😉 The way to Namche is anything but a little flat like Holland. Grateful for every metre in the Himalayas. It was great, it was fascinating on the way to Everest.
Mentally it was sometimes hard. You’d imagine something different under the word comfort. But here too Fatha mastered his job brilliantly and kept cheering us up, even when it was really tough now and then.
One thing is clear: it was exactly the experience we wanted, the one that had been going around in our heads for 10 years. We are proud and happy that we took on this, “our”, adventure. Thanks to Nepal and its people that we gained so many impressions which CANNOT be processed in a few weeks at home but instead have their firm place in our future. To all the people we met, all who kept their fingers crossed for us, a heartfelt Dhanyabad! We look forward to seeing them again.
