A spectacular flight on a small plane brought us to Lukla, the starting point of our trek to Gokyo. In Namche Bazaar we could watch the bustle of this important Sherpa trading place and, with hikes in the surrounding area, get in the mood for our march over two days. After that, the path led us past small villages, steadily uphill. The surroundings changed daily, became more high-alpine, and the view of the mountain giants was simply fantastic and unique. In Gokyo we climbed perhaps the most beautiful viewpoint in the entire Everest area, the 5,350 m high Gokyo Ri. Here we enjoyed the dreamlike mountain panorama and the view of the 8,000 metre peaks Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Makalu. Thanks to stable, magnificent weather, we crossed the rarely-walked Renjo La. This pass is certainly one of the most impressive passes in the Khumbu.
This trip also allowed us to experience a part of Nepal’s population up close. We count ourselves overjoyed that we could gain insights into the lives of these lovable, honest and hard-working people. The Nepalis deserve that many interested people travel their wonderful country, with its endless facets, with the necessary respect.
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Ms. Kolay for the perfect organisation of this unforgettable trip. To our guide Fatta and the two porters Ambir and Dilli go our greatest respect and gratitude. We travelled as a big family and, also thanks to them, we enjoyed every step that led us into this incredible landscape. We think this won’t be our last trip to Nepal and we will travel with geoDiscovery Tours again without hesitation. From A to Z, simply everything was right.
