Inspired by various travel brochures, we came across Nepal and Himalayan trekking. Since their offers, in our experience, get booked in large numbers and we had no desire for mass hikes, we searched online and came across the specialist geoDiscovery Tours. After my enquiry by email I shortly afterwards received a call from Mrs. Kolay, who then advised me about the trek and Nepal. You could feel immediately that this woman loves the country. This enthusiasm then jumped over to me and took away my fears as a trekking newcomer. The trip was a new experience for my wife and me, for which we are very grateful.
Nepal is a fascinating country, with people who live in the simplest of circumstances and are content. The one-week trekking tour was very varied and led through enchanting nature and impressive landscapes. The trekking guide was always extremely attentive and always walked at a pace we could comfortably manage. Breaks were taken fairly often, on which we were always supplied with biscuits and, where appropriate, tea. In the evenings we always sat together and planned the coming day. At the cosy wood stove, things also got fun during extensive games of UNO, in which our porters also took part and visibly enjoyed themselves.
The daily stages were relatively short, so we could get used to the altitude well. Therefore we never had any problems with altitude, circulation, etc.
The highlight were the views from Low Camp onwards, when Machapuchare showed itself through the clouds in the morning and in the evening. What sublime moments! The perfect summit happiness then came at the Mardi Himal Viewpoint at 4,200m in clear weather and sunshine. The surrounding mountains, more than 6,000 and 7,000m high, seemed close enough to touch. Absolutely impressive!
For our last accommodation in Lwang we stayed with a lovely host family, where we were able to experience the Nepalese way of life up close. We sat with them in the kitchen on the floor and watched the food being prepared at the open fireplace. Nepal is another world and we are grateful for everything we saw and were able to experience here.
We would definitely like to come back. The organisation and support by geoDiscovery Tours was excellent and impeccable!
