Detailed itinerary

• Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha – briefing and welcome dinner

  You will be met at Kilimanjaro Airport by our driver and then driven to your booked hotel in Arusha. The drive takes around one hour and, with a little luck, you may catch a glimpse of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. After checking in, your guide will give you a short briefing about your booked trip. The rest of the day is at your leisure. In the evening you are invited to a welcome dinner by your guide. Overnight at the Mtoni River Lodge Safari Lodge or an accommodation of equal category (D).

• Day 2: Drive from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park – bird paradise – 125 km and 2.5 hours of driving

  In the early morning, after breakfast, you will meet your private safari guide, who will also be your driver. You will receive a short overview of your next destination (Lake Manyara National Park) and all the important details to keep in mind, as well as what you can expect from this adventure. Lake Manyara National Park is one of the smaller national parks in Tanzania, but still offers beautiful landscapes and is home to an attractive number of wildlife species. The lake itself is alkaline and reaches a maximum depth of 3.7 m. For bird lovers this park is a real highlight, as more than 400 species of birds live here. Other residents of the park include elephants, buffalo, hippos, baboons, waterbucks, impalas, giraffes, zebras and wildebeest. The park has a large number of leopards, but sightings are rare due to the dense vegetation. With a little luck you may catch a glimpse of the famous tree-climbing lions, which climb up into the trees to spend the day lazing about. In the afternoon you will be driven directly to your accommodation in Karatu. Overnight at Eileen’s Inn or an accommodation of equal category (B|L|D).

• Day 3: Game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater – in the home of the Big Five – 105 km and approx. 2 hours of driving

  Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will be picked up by your private safari guide and drive directly to the gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and to the nearly 600 m deep crater. The caldera has a diameter of up to 19 km and an area of 264 km². Its heavily forested rim rises 610 metres above the floor of the caldera to an altitude of up to 2,286 metres. The Ngorongoro Crater and the surrounding highlands together form one of the most beautiful regions of Africa. The volcanic crater provides a breathtaking backdrop for some of the most fertile and richest grazing lands in Africa. The floor of the caldera consists predominantly of open grassland and is the best place in East Africa to see the Big Five. It is home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, black rhinos, leopards, buffalo, zebras, warthogs, wildebeest, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, and the densest lion population in the world. After an extended game drive you will receive your lunch (lunch box) at an idyllic picnic spot. After more exciting hours in the park you will be driven back to the hotel. • Day 4: Tarangire National Park – in the paradise of elephants and then drive to Arusha – 135 km and 2.5 hours of driving

  After breakfast you will be driven to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire lies slightly off the main safari route and is a beautiful, quiet park in northern Tanzania, covering an area of around 2,600 km². It is famous for its elephant migrations, birdwatching and its authentic safari atmosphere. With the exception of the critically endangered black rhino, Tarangire National Park is home to all the major animals of Tanzania – from the tiny dik-dik to the towering African elephants and giraffes that draw visitors from all over the world. In addition to these popular species, the park is home to three endangered animals that cannot be found anywhere else in the country: the fringe-eared oryx with its graceful horns, the towering greater kudu and the tiny Ashy Starling. In the afternoon you will be driven to Arusha. Overnight at the Hotel Mtoni River Lodge or an accommodation of equal category (B|L).

  

• Day 5: Transfer to the airport – flight to Zanzibar, drive to Matemwe – north-east coast

  Early in the morning you will be driven to the airport to fly to Zanzibar. On arrival you will be picked up and driven to your accommodation in Matemwe, where you will spend the next nights. Experience chalk-white sandy beaches, azure-blue sea and a fantastic coral reef. Zanzibar lies in the Indian Ocean and consists of the main islands of Unguja, known as Zanzibar, and Pemba, and countless smaller islands. The island of Zanzibar is blessed with natural beauty and a rich culture. Warm, sunny climate all year round. Its exciting history with Arab sultans, Portuguese seafarers, slave traders and European explorers has shaped the character of this island and its friendly people in a very special way. Not to forget the delicious Swahili cuisine with a wide selection of seafood. Overnight at the Magic Boutique Hotel or an accommodation of equal category (B|D).

• Day 6: Relaxing on the beach – other activities on the island

  Here you have the next few days to relax. If you would like to be active, you can take part in numerous excursions, including visits to historic Stone Town, the Jozani Forest, Prison Island and spice plantations. There are also a variety of adventure activities you can take part in, including hiking, birdwatching, windsurfing, kitesurfing, sea kayaking and sailing. The island also has fantastic coral reefs that are perfect for diving and snorkelling – and you may even be lucky enough at certain times of the year to spot dolphins, green turtles and whale sharks. • Day 7: Relaxing by the sea

• Day 11: Relaxing by the sea

• Day 12: Relaxing by the sea

  The day is at your leisure. Overnight at the Magic Boutique Hotel Sea View Room or an accommodation of equal category (B|D).

• Day 13: Relaxing by the sea

  Enjoy the sun and the sea one more time. On request, activities can be booked locally; otherwise there is time for relaxation and individual activities. Overnight at the Magic Boutique Hotel Sea View Room or an accommodation of equal category (B|D).

• Day 14: Transfer to Abeid Amani Karume Airport (ZNZ) – return flight home

  Free time until departure. Depending on your flight time, you will be driven back to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) for your international flight home (B).
