2-Day Safari | Short and Intense – Ngorongoro & Tarangire

Detailed itinerary

• Day 1: Tarangire National Park – elephants and baobab trees in abundance – 135 km and 2.5 hours of driving

  Early in the morning, after a tasty breakfast, we drive to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes about 2 hours and gives us a good impression of the rural region in Tanzania. Tarangire is famous for its large number of elephants and the distinctive baobab trees. The life-giving Tarangire River meanders right through the savannah-like park landscape. Many animals gather at the river, allowing outstanding wildlife viewing. Alongside many elephants, the park is home to giraffes, bushbucks, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest and much more. Sightings of predators such as lions, leopards and hyenas are always possible too. From the open roof of the jeep we can enjoy the scenery and watch the wildlife. After a full day in the park we drive to the well-appointed lodge in Karatu, where we have dinner in the aesthetically inviting restaurant, relax and spend the night in its spacious rooms. • Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater – wildlife viewing in the largest caldera on earth – 120 km and 3 hours of driving

  Very early in the morning, after an early breakfast, we drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ngorongoro. Inside the huge crater we have a whole day to observe wildlife in one of the most fascinating places on earth. Here the animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves. Enjoy a day of incomparable wildlife sightings. The Ngorongoro Crater and the surrounding highlands together form one of the most beautiful regions of Africa. Volcanic craters provide a breathtaking backdrop for some of the most fertile and richest grazing lands in Africa. The most famous crater of this kind is, without question, Ngorongoro, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to the highest density of big game in Africa. Ngorongoro is rightly one of the continent’s best-known safari destinations. The 610 m deep caldera, covering an area of around 260 square kilometres, is a self-contained ecosystem. After a break for our delicious picnic near the hippo lake and further wildlife sightings in the afternoon, we safely and contentedly drive up the steep road out of the crater to Arusha, where your safari with geoDiscovery Tours ends.

  On request we are happy to book the first and last night of the trip and to organise an onward programme or your transfer to the airport.
